Galen Rupp Wins Chicago Marathon, Becoming First American to Win Since 2002; Ethiopian Tirunesh Dibaba Wins Women's • SUN OCT 08, 2017 12:42 PM CT








Galen Rupp, from Portland Oregon, ran the Chicago Marathon with a winning time of 2 hours, 9 minutes and 20 seconds. Kenyan Abel Kirui came in second place  with a time of 2 hours, 9 minutes and 48 seconds. Bernard Kipyego, also of Kenya, placed third. Ethiopian Tirunesh Dibaba won the women's category in 2 hours 18 minutes and 31 seconds. Brigid Kosgei of Kenya placed second, and United States runner Jordan Hasay placed third.
