Dow Jones Record Breaks 23,000 -- Briefly Hits Record Tuesday, Surges Wednesday Morning • WED OCT 18, 2017 8:35 AM CT

The Dow Jones Industrial Average briefly crossed 23,000 points for the first time Tuesday October 17, 2017, after reaching 22,000 in August. The market closed at 22,997.

Steady U.S. economic growth this year, including the best rise in GNP (3.2%) in two years, low interest rates, stable inflation and strengthening global conditions are cited as reasons for the rise in the market. High hopes for tax reform is also considered a plus for the stock market.
Boeing (+142) and Caterpillar (+121) were the biggest points contributors on the Dow since August 2, 2017, when the DJI first broke above 22,000.

The Dow Jones Industrial (DJI) was up 117.70 at 23,115.14 just before 9:00 AM CDT after good earnings reports from IBM.
